13 Hours - The true story of the attack on the Benghazi Embassy in Libya on 9/11/2012
Filmed as a true story, an appalling event in American diplomatic history. The movie shows definitively what can happen when leaders all the way up the command structure follow their orders and when the need for help comes in, no help is given because authorization to act, cannot be found to be given.Americans, especially a high level diplomat, as a result, died from criminal administrative neglect. It should be a story to produces many lessons, but whether anything was learned from the despicable nature of this event cannot be known, least of all by me. The story of the attack on the Benghazi Embassy in Libya on September 11, 2012, is a story everyone, every American, should know. This movie shows, pretty well, what things are going on, day in the life events, of how it is for Americans to live and operate in a country that has been labelled by their own intelligence agency as "critically dangerous." They are living and existing in a country where life has no worth.

It's been a few yrs, watched it again, and became again enraged how our politicians left these guys to die. But as infamously it was said "what does it matter now"....someone should be rotting in jail. And God bless the ones that survived.

Before you read this review, note that I wrote this during and right after watching the movie to capture my emotions. It is a great movie and available free to Amazon Prime members.
Everyone should watch this movie. It became hard to watch as I realized the level of incompetence of the US State Department regarding the security of this compound. It is unimaginable that the strongest nation in the world would leave their representatives so vulnerable to attack. I remember all of the promises made after 9/11 about having rock solid security for government representatives at home and overseas. During the 2016 presidential campaign, what happened in Benghazi was talked about like a minor problem that was just a mistake. It was a damn fiasco that should have never occurred. It was 11 years after 9/11 to the day. Why didn’t Ambassador Chris Stevens have a proper security force? Four Americans died at the hands of terrorists on September 11, 2012. If the United States cannot protect its diplomats, it shouldn’t put them in harm’s way. The situation in Libya had been tense for months leading up to this tragic day. Every other country that had diplomats in Libya had already left. Hillary Clinton was the Secretary of State, and ultimately responsible for the lives of these Americans. Leon Panetta was the Secretary of Defense. In the official investigation report, there were references to inadequate funds for proper security forces. If that is true, the decision is simple: You don’t have American diplomats there.
The incredible bravery and loyalty of the “secret soldiers of Benghazi” was heroic. It is amazing this could go on for hours without any reinforcements, gunships, blackhawks, or air support arriving to assist. Every American needs to watch this movie to see and feel what happened in Benghazi in September 2012. The really sad part of this is that it is only one incident among thousands of similar scenes that have played out since 9/11/2001 and before. You need to watch this movie so you have a better understanding of what it means to stand for the US flag. You need to watch this movie to see what bravery is. Then, think about those weak souls that have to flee to a “safe space” because their presidential candidate lost the election. There are many times I wish everyone had to serve time in the military to gain respect for their country that their parents didn’t teach them. It takes incredible courage to continue fighting when bullets, mortars, and grenades are coming at you from every direction. For those of us who took an oath to defend our country, our flag represents what we vowed to die for. Please show our active duty military and veterans a gesture of support the next time you see an American flag.
There should have been plans in place for obtaining additional assistance and for an emergency escape. So many mistakes were made. If not for the loyalty of the few who defended the two American compounds, they all would have died. I’m not going to say, “oh well, hindsight is 20-20”. Our CIA and military professionals know how to defend such locations but they were not allowed to for whatever political reasons. If only the Secretary of State would have spent the amount of money protecting these people that they spent on the investigation afterward, they might still be alive. I wish I could say this will never happen again, but it will because we don’t seem to learn from our mistakes.
We should always remember those who perished and those who saved the lives of 31 other Americans in Libya on that horrific night in Benghazi. Thank you for your service, Ambassador Stevens, Sean Smith, Glen Doherty, and Tyrone Woods; you should not have died in Benghazi.

I don't want to come of as naive, although I might- but I had NEVER heard anything about this incident happening. My uncle had posted something about it on FB yesterday. I was immediately curious as to what this event was about. I Googled it and read up on the basics. Without reading anything more specific or read any reviews on on it, I went into the movie pretty blindley. I did see that John Krasinski was in it and recognized him from 'The Office". I loved his character on that show, a goofy, dopey guy with a dry sense of humor and witty comebacks. I had pretty low expectations of him portraying a believable soldier. However, his performance (as well as the other key soldiers) was SOLID. I've never (as I would guess 99.9% of the population hasn't) experienced the pressure, fearlessness and confidence an elite soldier must face minute by minute. Having to be "ready to go" and put their lives at risk for our country at any second, as well as their ease in preparing to fight the enemy was beyond impressive. War like movies are not my genre. Other than American Sniper, I've never had a desire to "pick" a war movie. I'm so glad I did. The entire movie and every aspect of it blew me away! I was tense and completely enthralled the entire movie and was was not able to relax within my body until it was over. It is a RARE movie in which I feel that way. There was never a time I felt I could leave the room for any reason without pausing it, I didn't want to miss a minute. I can't BELIEVE Jack's character would CHOSE to go over there- that he had that much pride in his duty and country. This is an event/movie I will not forget and will easily be able to recommend it with confidence to someone. I now want to know more about how all of this could happen and read up on this completely preventable?, horrible and sad 13 hour catastrophe (again I'm naive as to how often these enemy clashes occur). At times it was a complete slaughter house. Ugh....As they say, no man (or woman) shall be left behind....and boy did these soldiers fight with every ounce of their being until the very end putting in a 100% of effort. The timeline and minute by hour description that would pop up on the screen that I had to read quickly read while trying to figure out what was going on where/when, was hard to follow at times.....I think I need to rewatch the movie after I gather more information. I sure as HECK hope those families of the fallen soldiers are being well taken care of for the senseless loss they had to experience. Wow is all I can end with, just wow. And that doesn't even begin to do this movie the justice it deserves.

I’ll sort off by saying that initially I went into this film with not very high expectations. After all Michael Bay is rather infamous in Hollywood circles for his rather formulaic style of directing, and the fact that he has a history of being verbally, and in some cases, emotionally abusive to his staff and actors.
Overall as a mindless action movie similar to the film battle Los Angeles the film doesn’t do that bad of a job. Unfortunately, like I said, before it suffers from the predictable eccentricity of its director. Mainly, it’s almost hammy portrayals of what you’re supposed to be American patriotism. Along with unnecessary uses of explosions and slow motion.
Not only this, but one individual in the movie is portrayed as a necessarily antagonistic individual to the core characters. A level of antagonism that I feel is completely unwarranted and unnecessary.
If you can look past the absolute title waves of testosterone in this movie, you might enjoy it. But don’t go in expecting anything revolutionary.

I just have to say, this being a true story, thank you to those who fought and to those who died so that Americans can be safe. A combat veteran once told me that “ if you’re not a combat veteran, don’t ever say to one that you can imagine what it’s like. Because you can’t“
I’m not a veteran, but I love my country. God help us and bless us all.
Great movie.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ennesimo filmone di Michael Bay!
Reviewed in Italy on April 3, 2017
5.0 out of 5 stars La nouvelle référence du film de guerre???

Benghazi (Libye), 11 septembre 2012.
