ArchBang Linux – A live iso image based on Archlinux running Labwc window manager (original) (raw)
Quick update to iso to include latest kernel….
As with all things Arch, kernel was updated overnight so am rebuilding and uploading a fresh image. One other change that I have made is that sudo post install will require password. Older versions worked in the same way as live and not sure it is sure a good thing to do with the current … Quick update to iso to include latest kernel….
The wait is over Summer has arrived…..
Been working over past week to get a new release ready, was waiting for Arch to put out 7.0 kernel image and finally it arrived. You will find a very fresh new summer look for iso image, quite pleased with the result and starting to get Waybar [panel] looking good. GreenBANG major changes and more testing to be done.
GreenBANG has quite a few changes over the past week, some are quite major in relation to its running. I have removed Firefox from image for two reasons reduce image size and the fact without a network connection there is little point in running it. Package management too is pointless without a network connection. So … GreenBANG major changes and more testing to be done.
GreenBANG has got squashed!!!
Well got some good news, managed after quite some work to get GreenBANG running using squashfs. What does this mean? Well instead of whole filesystem going into ram it now loads from squashed image packages, settings etc…leaving more ram for running applications. With Firefox added you would need 4Gb of ram to even to able to … GreenBANG has got squashed!!!
Updated ArchBang and how is GreenBang going….
This week has been mostly trying to get Alpine linux to act like Archiso with varying levels of success. Alpine by default loads everything into ram. Packages are in a compressed file along with any root files. This is fine for a tty/console based iso image that is not on the heavy side. Once you … Updated ArchBang and how is GreenBang going….
I may have hit a roadblock in GreenBANG….
Have been working away adding more features to GreenBANG up to the point of shipping with Firefox. Managed to get a dynamic menu running of sorts. Switched out PcManFM for Thunar which allowed me to add mousepad [a l3afpad replacement]. Image size of course has grown to just over 800Mbs still well below ArchBang for … I may have hit a roadblock in GreenBANG….
GreenBang lives again, but this time uses Alpine Linux…..
I think most of my users figured out that my blog post in the week was an April Fools Joke. Certainly not stopping work in ArchBang unless a government agency has other ideas. Have been working on a new project for a couple of weeks now and wanted to share what I have so far … GreenBang lives again, but this time uses Alpine Linux…..
GreenBang: Because Life’s Too Short for Systemd
I’ve been sitting on this decision for a while, and I’ve decided it’s time to just say it plainly: ArchBang Linux will be transitioning away from Arch Linux as its base. The new project will be called GreenBang, and it will be built on Alpine Linux. I know. I know. Take a breath. Why now? … GreenBang: Because Life’s Too Short for Systemd
Making changes to ArchBang source for upcoming release..

ArchBang Installer …. What’s Changed
Been working on the installer this week. Something has bothered me for a while — while a menu-driven interface works, it doesn’t flow. What do I mean by that? A user has to select a number from the menu and then after each step return to the list. Why not just move on to the … ArchBang Installer …. What’s Changed
