One paper containing a manuscript copy, in the hand of Jane Austen, of Byron's poem 'Napoleon's farewell', c.1815.
Administrative / Biographical History
Byron's poem was first published in The Examiner on 30 July 1815 and subsequently appeared in his Poems published in 1816. Jane Austen's version, which is unpublished, differs considerably from Byron's original. The manuscript was presented to the University of Southampton by J.Pierpoint-Morgan in 1925, from the Charles Austen collection.
