MEET THE EDITORS
May Chen is an Editorial Director for the Avon/Morrow Group. She reads widely across genres, but her favorite stories are ones brimming with longing and swooning. She is the editor of the #1 New York Times bestselling authors Tessa Bailey, Meg Cabot, Karen Marie Moning, Julie Murphy as well as bestselling authors Lisa Kleypas, Jill Shalvis, Sierra Simone, and Mariana Zapata to name a recent few. (When not reading or editing, she can be found watching reality tv with a bag of Cheetos.)
Tessa Woodward edits a wide array of historical fiction, women's fiction, and romance. Her list includes multiple New York Times bestsellers, Book of the Month Club picks, and IndieNext picks. Recent successes range from New York Times bestseller and TikTok sensation Erin Sterling’s THE EX HEX, and a Duke and Duchess of Sussex inspired Rom Com series by Tracey Livesay to titles like Kate Quinn’s New York Times bestselling THE DIAMOND EYE, THE LIBRARIAN OF BURNED BOOKS by Brianna Labuskes, and Costco Book Club pick BY HER OWN DESIGN by Piper Huguley. She is thrilled to be the editor of everything from historical romance favorites Tessa Dare, Sarah MacLean, and Joanna Shupe, to up and coming contemporary voices like Claire Swinarski, Cesca Major, and Poppy Alexander, as well as Sci-Fi crossover writers Jessie Mihalik and Valerie Valdes.
Laura Schreiber joined the Morrow/Avon team in 2024. She is acquiring contemporary romance, romantasy, and upmarket fiction with a strong commercial hook. Recent notable titles include A Broken Blade by Melissa Blair and B&N “Our Monthly Pick” Not So Perfect Strangers by L.S. Stratton. She is particularly interested in new adult romance, accessible high-concept fantasy, and thrillers with a subversive twist. She loves when an author brings an unexpected perspective to a popular trend.
Before moving into romance and commercial fiction, she edited numerous bestselling and award-winning novels for young adults including the #1 New York Times bestseller Lore by Alexandra Bracken, Kingdom of the Wicked by Kerri Maniscalco, and the Newbery Medal-winning Freewater by Amina Luqman-Dawson. Her books have been finalists for the L.A. Times Book Prize, the Kirkus Prize, and the Stonewall Book Award.
Shannon Plackis joined Avon Books as an Editor in 2024. She began her publishing career with Kensington Publishing in 2016 and since then, she has worked on a wide array of genres: romance, mystery, thriller, speculative fiction, women’s fiction, and non-fiction. She has edited critically acclaimed author Kate Clayborn, USA Today bestselling author Annie Rains, and popular TikTok content creator Katie Siegel. She worked on titles including Indie Next Pick Charlotte Illes Is Not a Detective, Georgie, All Along, which garnered an Indie Next Pick, Library Reads Pick, and a Book of the Month selection, and PEN America Literary Award Finalist 999.
Shannon is excited to focus on romance at Avon, from laugh-out-loud romcoms to grand sweeping love stories to romances with a more speculative edge. She’s particularly drawn to projects with a strong voice and characters that you cannot help falling in love with—and she can never say no to a good slow burn.
Ariana Sinclair is an Associate Editor for the Avon/Morrow group. She edits a wide range of fiction including commercial women’s fiction and contemporary romance, especially stories centered around diverse characters and romantic relationships with equal measures of humor and heart. For Avon, she’s proud to publish bestselling author Nisha Sharma as well as debut authors including Rachel Greenlaw, Alexandra Paige, and Betty Corrello.
Allie Roche joined the Avon team in 2022 after completing her master’s degree specializing in Gothic Romance. She is thrilled to have her dream job where she gets to continue engaging with her lifelong passion for storytelling on a daily basis. Allie loves reading commercial fiction featuring unique narrative voices, and is especially drawn to will-they-won’t-they romances and delayed coming of age stories. Anything featuring sister dynamics or a speculative element is always a plus!
