The Basics' page (since 2001) (original) (raw)
Comprehensive list of Basic-like languages which build stand-alone executables.
I am a huge fan of BASIC and all BASIC-like languages. Back in 2001, I started searching for versions of BASIC that could build standalone EXEs, as I was fascinated by languages capable of creating self-contained applications. Perhaps this attraction stemmed from the fact that I have been using PCs and DOS 3.0 since 1988, a time when limited hardware required high code optimization and storage space was scarce (my first hard disk was only 20 megabytes). As I found more languages than expected, I realized this information could be useful to others. I decided to compile a simple list and published it as a single web page: The Basics' Page
In 2003, the second version of the site went online as the number of listed languages grew rapidly. The website was updated again in 2008 and 2012 to offer more features and user interaction. However, as time passed, I had less time to dedicate to it. In 2022, I decided to return to the original layout and rebuilt the site as a single page.
I would be delighted to add more versions of BASIC, but I no longer have the time to review them myself. If you would like to submit a new language, please write a brief review, include a screenshot of the UI, and send me an email.
