Global Spectrum will continue managing the Rose Garden for another year, a Portland Trail Blazers executive confirmed today.

Vulcan Sports and Entertainment, the company owned by Paul Allen that oversees the Trail Blazers, had considered dropping Global Spectrum for AEG, an entertainment company managed by the brother of Vulcan Sports' president.

But Mike Golub, the Blazers' chief operating officer, said Vulcan decided to keep Global Spectrum for another year to smooth the transition between the team's old and new management. Golub and president Larry Miller recently joined the NBA team. Golub said Vulcan will re-evaluate arena operations before the end of the contract.

"In the end, we thought it was the right thing for our fans to keep the continuity," Golub said. He declined to reveal the amount of the contract, but said it was "a market-rate deal."

Global, owned by Philadelphia-based Comcast Spectacor, had run the arena since 2005, when Vulcan and Allen forfeited ownership of the Rose Garden in bankruptcy proceedings. Over that time, Global boosted concerts and events at the Rose Garden and Memorial Colesium and sold suites, signage and courtside seats in the arena. The company has 75 full-time and more than 700 part-time employees.

Allen reassumed ownership of the building this year.

AEG, a unit of Anschutz Co., owns several arenas and sports teams and its own concert and event-promotion division. Vulcan Sports President Tod Leiweke's brother, Timothy, is AEG's chief executive.
