To make American education new, we must ensure that all of our teachers effectively master and deploy the perennial pedagogies - going all the way back to Socrates - that once made American education the envy of the world. Then and only then can our educational innovations be grounded in canonical greatness, rather than the quicksand of faddish ephemera.
