BirdFacts provides key information about the UK’s birds and their changing fortunes, based on data collected by BTO and partner organisations.
BirdFacts covers all species that have been recorded in the wild in the UK, plus many non-native species that have become established here.
BTO and partner organisations monitor the populations of many of these species through core surveys. For these species, BirdFacts provides robust and up-to-date information on status, distribution, biology and trends, all thanks to data collected by volunteers.
Four ways to explore the data
Search for a bird by name
Facts, figures and maps for each UK bird. Much of this information is generated through BTO and partnership schemes.
Search for an area by postcode
Enter your postcode and find key information about the changing fortunes of birds in your area, based on BTO and partner data.
Go to Birds on your Doorstep >
View trends in different countries
An interactive tool for exploring how a particular species is faring. View trends for different countries, and download data and graphs.
Read the BirdTrends Report
An annual synthesis of the latest changes in our breeding bird populations, together with interpretative material from the literature.

Help us continue our vital surveys
Our surveys generate much of the data that underpin resources like BirdFacts, and help us drive positive change for the UK’s birds.
But increased pressure on funding is putting our surveys and data at risk – which is why we need your support.
