Bridge of Light (original) (raw)
In this unique performance, four artists use live music, dance, and forty-meter long scroll paintings to build a metaphoric bridge spanning from Mee Lun Street to Shing Hing Street in Central, Hong Kong.
In the process, the bridge traversed the Art Statements Gallery.
The performance is dedicated to the theme of healing, both physical and spiritual, and to all those who seek healing for themselves or for those around them. The healing power lies within each one of us and sometimes we just need to go inside and bring it out in our own ways. That is the simplicity and the magic of giving and receiving.
This improvisational performance brings together song, dance, poetry and food in the heart of Central underneath the bewitching stars and moonlit Milky Way. Come and join this block party with Andy, Ulysses, Taiju and Wilson.
Time: 7:30 PM, Sunday May 16, 2004
Place: Art Statements Gallery, ground floor, #5 Mee Lun Street, Central (in between Hollywood Road and Wellington Street near Aberdeen Street). Admission is free.

The performance
It's hard to describe the incredible energy we felt, dancing, drumming to candlelight, surrounded by paintings.
These photos don't do it justice at all. But that's the ephemeral nature of performance.
The Secret Beach
It was a hot Sunday afternoon. We hiked out to a secluded beach where Taiju did two dance improvisations. In the first he was perched on a rock and imitated a soaring bird in slow motion, spinning and soaring. In the second he kept close to the rocks, lizardlike.
Then I hiked over steep rocks and found a secret beach, a powerful place surrounded by rock cliffs, with a hidden waterfall. I ran in the waves, lay on the wet sand, danced and sang. I hope to bring some friends there one day.

Some work-in progress photos
What is a Bridge?
what is a bridge if not to connect two distant shores? Underneath
water flows. emotions run free. a separation. a crevice.
the ingenuity of man's intelligence, wisdom combined with his/her
vision, will and determination creates a rite of passage from one state
to another through a heart bridge and/or bridge of life.
this is a powerful symbol that unites disjoined parts within us and
that which remains separate in the outside world. for us hong kongers,
we have the world's longest suspension bridge - tsing ma bridge. it is
within our collective minds and souls. Let's transcend this world of
duality, invoke our personal bridge(s) so that we can transverse from
one shore to another, my brothers and sisters.

Poems of Healing
opening
when the mountain falls
the world still remains as she is
i close my eyes so dust and anger past by in a whisper
the sky opens his mouth to swallow all the grief and beauty of the
moment
the deeply packed earth remains moist
oozing patience and wooing time to stay by her side.
wcwc.april.16.2004.
in a world where love and pain exist, there is tremendous amount of
truth in accepting things as they are - no more and no less. In our
own ways, how do we forgive our own selves, the past, the present, the
coming present and those who live around us and all that are part of
us. As tough as it all sometimes seems, how do we redeem all that we
have casted away and dared not to own up - the power of redemption can
bring a new perspective and as well as insight on existing parts of our
lives that we have once judged it...last but not least, how do we share
all this wisdom and knowledge with other parts of our selves and to our
fellow community. This all comes form the healing presence of our
heart. As we all learn about the unconditional love in our journey on
this earth.
