Top 10 Films of 2017 #6 - The LEGO Batman Movie - dir. Chris McKay
The best film DC has released into theaters in years and one of the best Batman films of all time. It’s a heartfelt, meta commentary of Batman and his surrounding cast of characters. The animation is lovely and charming. The script is so funny with many references that any Batman fan will recognize. I had so much fun watching this. It is just that good.
Nice to see more non-tradition casting in the Batman Lego movie. First, Billy Dee Williams finally gets to play Two-Face. He played Harvey Dent in Tim Burton’s “Batman” (1989) but by the time “Batman Forever” (1995) rolled around Two-Face was cast with Tommy Lee Jones.
The new Batman Lego movie also includes Mariah Carey as Gotham City Mayor; Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman; and Jermaine Clement as the voice of Sauron.

The new trailer for WB’s brick-tacular™ Batman flick is revealing a lot more info about the plot. We come to see that Robin is along for the ride–and they don’t look like a Grayson…or a Drake..or a Todd. While we don’t get a name, we do know that they’re a boy who has a striking resemblance to Carrie Kelly’s Robin. We also see the Justice League, Harley and the Joker, and Barbara Gordon (AKA Batgirl/Oracle).
Batman lore abound!
Lego Batman isn’t even out yet and Alfred having a parental lock on the computer is already my favorite thing in it.
Almost there. No time for a pitstop if I want to beat Superman.
