Recently, Sycamore Squirrels (1st SHAPE) learnt about making choices and voting. We wanted to have nests like the Beaversโ lodges, the Cubsโ sixes and the Scoutsโ patrols so the Squirrels had a discussion on choice of names and chose the names for their nests themselves. They also got down to voting on what to call their Squirrel forum. Beavers have a Log Chew, Cubs have a Pack Forum, Scouts have a Troop Forum and Explorers have a Unit Forumโฆ so our Leaders proposed some options and the Squirrels voted on their favourite. The winner for our Squirrel forum is โSquirrelly Squeaks!โ Yay for youth-shaped scouting!

Making Founder's Day Unforgettable ๐๐ Activities to Celebrate ๐๐ As we embrace the spirit of Founder's Day, let's bring to life the values that Robert and Olave Baden-Powell envisioned for the Scouting movement. Here are 3 ideas to make this Founder's Day memorable: Community Impact Project โ Reviving Green Spaces: Join in with the mission to beautify and conserve our local spaces. This project can go beyond a clean-up; you could plant trees, set up bird feeders, and install benches, creating a lasting impact and a greener space for our community. Outdoor Adventure โ Hiking Trail: Lead a hiking trail that challenges young people physically and mentally. Along the route, set up stations that test survival skills, teamwork, and Scouting knowledge. Ending the hike with stories of our founders' adventures. Scouting Skills โ Skill Sharing: Organise a day dedicated to mastering and sharing Scouting skills, from traditional knot tying and navigation to modern digital safety and sustainable practices. Structured in a fair format, Scouts can lead mini workshops, demonstrating skills and learning from others.

Happy Founders Day! ๐. Today marks a significant occasion in the Scouting community - Founder's Day, observed worldwide on February 22nd. This commemorates the birthday of Robert Baden-Powell, the founder of the Scouting movement. It also honors Olave Baden-Powell, his wife, who was instrumental building the Scouting and Guiding movements. Together, they laid the foundations for a global community dedicated to the growth and development of young people. Founder's Day is a time for reflection, celebration, and renewal of our commitment to the principles and values instilled by the Baden-Powellโs. It's a reminder of the Scout Promise and Law. Across the globe, Scouts honour this day by engaging in activities that embody the spirit of Scouting - service, community, and personal development. As we celebrate Founder's Day, let's remember the legacy left by Robert and Olave. Their vision for a better world, shaped through the education and empowerment of youth, that continues to inspire millions of Scouts. It's a day to be proud of our heritage and to look forward to the impact we can make in the years to come.

From an interactive story-time about how the Lunar Calendar began to making lanterns, ancient Chinese scrolls, a chopstick challenge relay and receiving Ang Pows (the red envelopes with chocolate coins inside instead of real money!) from a special guest, the Squirrels had a very happy, full meeting!
