Can UC this? (original) (raw)

So I was talking with a fellow consultant about the problem of food and drinks in the labs and how frustrating it gets repeatedly telling them to put their food/drink away. He had a rather good idea I thought. His idea was that we should implement a system so that every time someone has their food and/or drink out, you get their account information (like log-in ID) and they get a strike on their account. And after so many strikes (like 3 or 5) their account becomes banned for a few days. A few more strikes, the ban goes on for a week. I personally like this idea. Makes users think a little more before breaking the rules and maybe they will start paying attention to them.
Yea, I know that this might not come to be, but one can hope and dream right?
Oh, and for those who want to know, Oz is the one who came up with it.

Why yes yes I can. . .
in fact because with my glasses I can see at almost normal levels. . your website, your manuals (which are increasingly difficult to find and just not right either as they have very little to do with the installation other than . . .you install it ) hi, for once I'd actually like to know system requirements and a more indeapth version. . cause well you are giving me issues. . .
...than a disrespectful user of the UCit labs.
A particular young woman came into the McMicken lab last Friday (same shift for me), and had the volume on her iPod loud enough that I could hear the music clearly from the consultant desk. I asked her to turn it down, and she got louder than the music to complain. Not acceptable, and very rude, to say the least.
Today, she comes into the lab in the middle of a phone conversation. I give her about half a minute (for that period she was rather quiet) as a sort of a grace period to end the call. She doesn't, so I ask her to finish the conversation outside the lab. Once again, she gets very loud, and again she disturbs all the users in the lab.
This woman is really, really pissing me off at this point, and I'm going to watch her like a damn hawk every time she comes into a lab during one of my shifts. >.

Ok, haven't really been using it all that long, but I've been handed a copy of window 2007 to test out on my work machine, since of those of us in the office, I'm the one who would use it most.
Over all it's kinda neat. . . you can't really get the normal print screen unless you click on print preview and the normal top bar is gone . . so you no longer have the drop down menus for file, edit, view, tools etc. . . which is weird, but you have tabs that are broke down into things like home, insert, page layout etc. . . and then into almost trays. . .
that's all fine. . . what really really is starting to bug me though. . .
the logo in the top left hand corner keeps fading do orange then back to the blue to orange then back to the blue background. . . it's driving me crazy!!! No flashy on my computer unless you NEED my attention. . . :: twitch twitch::

I hate Kiosks. . .
when the idea was introduced. . .they were. . . "set it and forget it"
yeah. . . I've had to do "immediately work on now may day may day may day" issues with the kiosks than any of the lab machines. . .

Here's a tip for users, do not come to the computer lab 5-10 minutes before your class and expect to be able to print off your paper.
And yes it is "bullshit" but we know the new mac image is slow and sucks, thanks for the insight user.

On Monday while I was in Langsam, I had a user come up to me and say "My computer (in lab 460) isn't sending pronts to the printer." Thinking she meant the one by me (since all prints are being routed there) I went and took a look. She then went on to say that when she swiped her card at the print station, it wasnt there. The print station in room 460.... I told her "If you look, there is a sign at the print station saying that the prints are being routed to the printer up by the consultant station" and left. When will our users learn to read?

Will they make up their mind?

You give me a date, I go cool it's on that Date, well it has to be that date so let me move around the plans I already made. .. Nope! we've got something else, move the date to one that isn't so well for what we are doing. . .
Oh wait we can't do it then, we all forgot about it except for Jackie!
and next week is bad because well Jackie changed up her plans was told that it was one date and then made plans for next thursday night. . .
guess what, we'll be doing it over break. . . sometime!

Not a funny user story, but a question. Why is there no firefox on the new PC image? Why is there only one browser for that matter?

I had a girl come into HD the other day with her laptop wanting wireless help. She had just come from the CGC where they had spent an hour trying to get her laptop onto our wireless. I took a look and got it done in less than 5 min. The problem? They registered the LAN physical address, not the Wireless address. This happening alot. People need to read....
