Truths Revealed > Chapter 3 (original) (raw)
Finding her was a lot easier than I had expected, although that’s mainly because she hadn’t cloaked her goddess powers from anything or anyone, which I should have expected. She had lived as a mortal for almost twenty years. Still it felt odd, her aura seemed to draw me straight to her and even if I hadn’t of needed to meet her, I don’t believe I could have resisted.
And that unnerved me more than anything else did in this little town.
Sitting in front of her gave me plenty of time to study her, since she seemed just as entranced as I was… then again; I am god of sex and beauty. Still with my powers cloaked from everyone (even her), she shouldn’t look as enchanted as she does. None of the other townies looked at me more than twice before returning to their food when I entered the café.
Her red hair was much darker than Aphrodite’s but still as vibrant as any other god’s hair even with it pulled back into a messy bun with her bangs framing her face. She looked beautiful, even better than the image I saw of her earlier.
Damn it, what in Hades is wrong with me? I haven’t felt like this in centuries… If Aphrodite has anything to do with this –
She pulled my thoughts away from my mother when she cleared her throat. She finally managed to look away from me for a moment before her eyes wondered back to me. “So, um, where are you from?”
I chuckled at the question, “Greece.” That was the simplest answer anyway. Couldn’t exactly tell her here of all places where I was really from – where she is really from.
Her eyes widened at my answer, “Really and why exactly are you here of all places?”
I grinned at her causing her to blush. Her flushed cheeks made her even more enticing. “I’m actually looking for you.”
Something about her seemed to do a 180 at my statement. I was expecting to get more blushing or maybe a little surprise or possible some suspicion. However what she seemed to have closed off completely. She had a hard face now, tension clearly apparent in every feature. She also looked like she was either ready to fight or bolt at any moment. What in Hades has she been through that when a handsome guy like myself tries a pick up line that she immediately goes into this tense mode. She should just think I was flirting with her or something like that... not think that I was about to kill her.
"Who are you?" Her voice also became cold, which reminded me much of Athena in that aspect and her eyes also seemed to flare up like our dear old daddy's does whenever he's about to pick a fight. Well, isn't this going to be fun?
"My name is Eros," I stated, without lying or giving false information, which I had a feeling she would have known if I did or not. I continued to smile at her hoping she would relax... which she did to a certain point since her lips had twitched into a smirk but she was still very much tense.
"Eros, huh? Your mother named you after the Greek god?" At least she knows about me... and possibly the others as well. That's good; I won't have to explain too much to her once we get back to Olympus.
"Something like that," I replied back, "And your name?"
"Chloe Sullivan, Mr. ?" Chloe was a nice name - Greek for verdant and blooming, actually which is kind of ironic in a sense... since she is blooming into a goddess.
"Valentine, however please just call me Eros, Chloe." I grinned at her, causing her lips to smile.
"I've heard of a lot of strange things, Eros... but I must say your name might just top the list. I'm sure you get a lot of girls when you state your name."
"Why thanks, but actually you'll be surprised at how many don't actually know who Eros is... apparently the world only knows him as by his Roman name." And I wanted to smash the person who came up with the name and image for people to worship me. Ugh... seriously, a little angel boy with arrows in a diaper? Apparently imagination can only go so far for mortals. Idiots. Let's just say that guy never had sex in his life before his timely death. "I'm glad to have at least met someone over here who knows my name."
Chloe laughed, and I could visibly see the tension disappear - although not completely. She definitely had a knack for being alert. "Yes, well it helps when you had a mother teach you all about the Greek myths. I loved learning all about the tales and the gods."
Bingo. Thank Zeus for small favors...
"Oh really? And just which ones really brought you into the love? Gods-wise of course," I questioned, I was actually curious to see who she had admired from afar. I believe she would have felt a connection toward Aphrodite or Ares... And I just couldn't wait to tell them who won.
"All of them really but well, and you might probably find this weird... but I was always fascinated with Hades." Well so much for that theory - Ares won't like the sound of that though... nor would our mother of course.
"And just why would Hades make it on your list? I'd think Aphrodite would be the one you'd admire, what with your beauty." At her blush I realized something... kind of weird. Her luck in love was awful. As a daughter of Aphrodite, she should have been at least gifted with some luck in love even if her powers were not based in love like mine are.
"Ha, well not that I have any clue in why I am admitting this, but my luck with men? Usually ends up with them trying to kill me... or are just platonic friends. I have zero luck in love." Her words both confirmed my realization and surprised me.
"Trying to kill you?" At her grimace, I realized just exactly why she had tensed up so much at the words I spoke earlier. Ares definitely won't be too happy if he hears about this. Nor would Aphrodite.
"Way too many stories and not exactly something I'd like to speak about, let alone to a complete stranger I just met." Chloe replied before taking a sip of coffee and I nodded in understanding. "What about you? Which god did you find yourself relate to?"
Oh funny this is... "Eros, of course."
She chuckled, "I guess your mother named you perfectly."
"Yes, yes she did." At least she hadn't named me 'Cupid'. I don't care if I'm supposed to represent love; I would have hurt her if she had.
"Could I get you something, sir?" A brunette asked as stepped up to our table with a little notepad. I smirked at her. She was cute... for a mortal. But I wasn't here for her.
"Coffee would be great thanks." I stated before facing Chloe again, who stared at me with surprise before the waitress asked her if she wanted more coffee.
"That would be great Julie... thanks." She smiled back at the waitress.
"No prob, boss. I'll get them as soon as possible." She stated quickly before rushing off.
"Boss, huh?" Interesting, I hadn't exactly pegged her as an owner to this little thing.
"Well, yeah in a way. My friend left town a year or so ago and then her business partner, Martha Kent, became the senator so she also had to leave town. And well, since I'm out of work right now, I took over for them here. And oh god, why the heck am I blabbing all this stuff to you? I'm sorry," Chloe stated, with her face flushed in embarrassment. And suddenly she was back to the woman I met before, embarrassed and relaxed... and as odd as it sounds - I felt relieved despite the fact I hated how more attractive she became with her cheeks flushed. I don't want to feel like this. Not again.
"No, it's alright. It sounds interesting... you sound fascinating." Seriously? What did Aphrodite do to me?
"Wow, that's like the best compliment I've gotten from a stranger before," Chloe joked, her eyes lighting up in amusement. Damn it I need to get out of here... I glanced down at my watch before standing up, taking out some money and dropped it on the table. Glancing down at Chloe's face, I frowned. Her lips were twitched into a frown that was trying to smile. I disliked it, she shouldn't be frowning. "I'm sorry I can't stay any longer, but I hope we could go out later tonight, around five maybe?"
"Five sounds great, Eros. Where did you want to go?" Chloe asked grinning. I put on my most charming smile in return.
"How about we meet here and decide then what to do?"
"Sounds great, see you then."
I left quickly after that, and fortunately managed to not look back. After I walked out of the cafe, I quickly walked away from the eyesight of the windows before popping back to Olympus.
Someone has some explaining to do.
