Characters Name: Quin’thala Mooneyes
Characters Journal: quinthala
Characters Age: 19
Characters Race: An unusual Nyn/Leveret Halfling
Characters Class: Unarmed Fighter (secret Ninja)
Physical Description: Standing about 4’1” at the top of her head (about 5’6” including her ears), Quin isn’t particularly tall. Resembling a Nyn with rabbit's legs, long tufted ears, and short tail, she can certainly stand out in a crowd. Her fur coloring resembles a tiger’s, being orange with brown/black stripes, and having patches of white fur on the insides of her arms and legs, as well as her stomach, chest, chin, and cheeks. Her body and arms have a lithe, muscular build as a result of her martial arts training, though she’s fairly well endowed as a woman as well. Her legs (particularly around the thighs) seem a bit more “rotund”, and end in strangely exaggerated feet with only 3 toes, but are actually the strongest parts of her whole body, since they have the innate strength of the small Leveret people, but are much larger than those of the standard Leveret. Her eyes are unusual as well, the pupils being a golden-brown kind of color. She also has regular hair; a kind of sandy blonde color, straight, reaching down past her shoulders, which she usually just combs back and puts in a ponytail. Quin often dresses in Leveret (aka Native American) styles, though she has 3 items of particular note; a necklace of beads her mother made for her “coming of age” ceremony, an intricate golden bangle she received for aiding some Clu’ai, and her ceremonial staff, shod with bronze on both ends and bearing carvings of important events in her life.
Racial Traits: Aside from already being a rare and unusual combination of races, her eyes stand out in particular. (Thanks to Jett for the pic!)
Current Location: Plains of Esmyr
Background: Her mother was a Nyn-ja named Thala who met Quin's father Thadius (who was training in martial arts) when they were both young and in training - she tried to sneak attack him, but failed. Consequentially, they continued meeting as she kept returning, trying to defeat him. Since she could never beat him, she eventually joined him. This was not received well by Thala’s family and clan, but her long drive at attempting to beat the Leveret had made her one of the most skilled members of the clan. So instead of incurring losses by silencing her, Thala was allowed to live; if she swore never to teach the art of nynjitsu to "outsiders". Thala and Thadius moved away from their homes near the Labrynth Jungle to live with some of Thadius’ relatives in the plains of Esmyr.
Quin'thala was eventually born, considered a miracle and a mystery, as no-one in the burrow had ever known of such a pairing bearing children. She was trained by her father in Leveret-style martial arts, and secretly in the arts of nynjitsu by her mother; a difficult process, as they could not train where anyone, not even Thadius, could watch. As she grew, Quin was never quite accepted by the other Leverets. Not long after coming of age, Quin'thala left home to find her way in the world.
So far, she has only traveled to and fro across the Plains of Esmyr, learning from gypsies and even once saving a town of Clu’ai from a creature of the swamps, in return receiving a gold bangle and having the ends of her ceremonial staff shod in bronze, making it more suitable as a weapon.
Personality: In general, she’s rather proud and aloof. Mostly proud of her fighting abilities, though her mother also instilled her with some pride in her body as well, along with some fashion sense (though she tends to stick with Leveret style clothing, she has no problem trying other fashions). The aloofness mostly comes as a result of growing up with few to no friends, and a few unfavorable encounters with Eiflan men since leaving home hasn’t helped her see reason to open up to others.
In truth, however, she’s really a good person; she puts up a cold façade for the purposes of training and working as an adventurer and bounty hunter, but if she were to ever find a close friend, they would find that she’s actually a pretty caring person. She also likes singing and dancing in Leveret/tribal styles, though she feels a bit awkward about dancing where people can see her; she mostly knows ceremonial dances, which are her favorites.
She also guards her fighting style closely – she knows she cannot use any ninja styles of combat lest she betray her mother’s secret, but also knows that in a life or death situation, she must use whatever means she has. She usually uses an interesting mixture of staff-fighting and kick boxing, taking advantage of her strong legs, and using a staff to make up for her arms’ relative lack of reach or strength (and lack of claws). Since Leverets are vegetarians, Quin’s Nyn mother had to survive by trading for fish from traveling merchants; though she’s technically an omnivore, Quin loves fish, and since leaving home she has come to like all kinds of meat.
Powers and/or Abilities: She possesses no magic that she knows of, and therefore relies entirely on her skill in combat. She knows a few ninja techniques that she keeps a secret, and her Leveret heritage makes her an excellent jumper and runner; in fact, the fact that she’s larger than a standard Leveret means that she has larger, stronger legs, and is therefore quite possibly one of the best jumpers and runners in the world.
Sexual Preference: Straight, but right now she isn’t looking. In fact, since leaving home she’s been “turned off” by a few Eiflan men with lame pick-up lines. Doesn't really help that she's one-of-a-kind.
Anything else we should know? There’s a reason that an unusual Halfling combination like Quin was able to come about, but she doesn’t know it, neither do her parents. However, it’s quite likely that some less scrupulous scientists, magicians, or other seekers of knowledge, if brought to know of her existence, might try to find out that secret… which is pretty simple actually - a Ma'Neko Fey married secretly into the Nyn side of her family a few generations back, and actually kept it a secret somehow. The Fey blood isn't really strong enough in her to be sensed unless the senser is doing so on purpose; it just happens to be strong enough to enable her existence.
