Bracelets (pt. 1) (original) (raw)

Ok, these are all the bracelets that I've made. They're all made from memory wire, which means that they're a certain shape and will hold that shape. I haven't yet made any bracelets with SoftFlex wire, although it's certainly possible, and it's something I'll be doing in the future. I like the memory wire style, though.

These bracelets come in two widths - one fits more snugly, one is looser. Personally I prefer the looser fit, it's more like a bangle, and it definitely works better for chunkier pieces. Others prefer the tighter fit, some because of personal taste, others, like my friend, because they have skinny-ass wrists.

Loose fit:

The loose fit is about 2.5 inches measured across.

Tight fit:

The tight fit is about 2 inches measured across. I'm going to find a better picture of this soon.

I would love for you to request a bracelet made with SoftFlex, as I haven't yet had a chance to make any with it. My only concern though is that with the current clasps I am using, they would be difficult to do up solo. If I get requests for them, though, I will get some other types of clasp.

This is probably my current favourite piece. I don't actually have it anymore... I made it as a present for a friend, so she has it now. :( I plan to make another one for me, though, with a necklace. I wanted to create a black necklace that sparkled with dark colours, and this is exactly what I wanted. I was pretty pleased with it, and my friend really liked it.

Blue

Thin bracelet:

This is a really nice simple bracelet, deliberately thin, good for when you want to wear a bracelet, but don't want to wear something too showy. I wear it a lot. :)

Chunky bracelet (tight)

The first blue piece I made... I don't have it anymore, I think I turned it into the bracelet below. I liked it, but I felt that the tighter wire didn't really work with a chunkier design...

...whereas this one is using a looser wire, and looks much better with the chunkiness. I always get comments on this whenever I wear it.

Colourful

This piece matches a necklace also posted here, made to replace a set I had that broke. It is quite striking, as it is so colourful. I like it, but I feel that I can't really take full credit for it, as most of the design isn't really mine, it's Miss Selfridge. Hee.

Pink

I quite like this piece, but I haven't yet been able to make the really vivid pink jewellery that I want to. It's part of an ongoing trial to make a really bright pink necklace or bracelet, but whenever I try it always ends up as a paler, softer piece. Which I do like, but it's not exactly what I was aiming for.

Purple

This uses real rose quartz, made from a broken necklace I once had (I still have loads left) and purple beads. It's not really my style, I think it would work better as a more delicate piece, but I know some people like it. I want to make a more delicate purple bracelet soon.

Red

as modelled by...

A gift for a friend, who asked for a red bracelet and earring set for her birthday. I was getting bored with the limited red bead supplies I had, so I worked some orange into it and I really like the effect, it doesn't clash like you'd think it would, it creates quite a rich spectrum of colours and somehow makes the red more intense. I plan to make a version for me, soon.

Green

Chunky bracelet

Slightly obsessed with turquoise right now. This is a piece that is quite similar to the blue piece above, but I made it first. I didn't like it when I finished it - it had taken ages, and I thought it was too chunky, but then I wore it out and changed my mind. Because it's so chunky and has so many coils (five) it's a real statement piece, you could wear it with a bare arm and need no other jewellery (although I tend to go with earrings too, as I love my earrings.

Thin bracelet

This was an attempt to remake my thin blue bracelet, as above, but it's not quite the same. The main reason is because it has more coils - I think if it was as sparse as the blue bracelet, it would be more similar. I do like it, though. It's my subtler version of the chunky turquoise one.

Please note, you can see all the different colour beads I currently have in my possession here. Please feel free to request any necklaces or bracelets you might like, and I'll do my best to make them for you (and obviously will tell you if I can't).
