I have PSP 8, and I'm hoping someone can help me with this. Even though I know all the steps to making a basic icon (bases), I don't know the best steps for clarifying an image to make my icons look more clear. Normally what I do is blur the picture and then resize it, but that doesn't always give me the best results. My friends have mentioned "playing with the colors," but that doesn't exactly help me out because I don't know which steps to take. Please help?

A lot of the full icon tutorials are really good for tips with that; they often start with various cropping, resizing, and sharpening methods.
The cropping and resizing guides might also be of some help to you; some of those not only tell you how to crop, but also how to get the most out of a resize. :)

For cropping in a nutshell...
What I do is I click the crop tool and at the top is two boxes to input pixel numbers i put 100x100. the I move the box and hover over the resize diagonal arrow. then i hold shift and hold the mouse button down and resize. then i double click and then go to image/resize and put in 100x100. hope that helps at all...

Oooh I didn't know you could do that in PSP8. Will have to try that out sometime. :)

My favorite way of cropping. I'm really quite lazy.

hehe I'm lazy also - I have a ton of scripts I use to resize my icon 100x100, and add a border, do basic coloring, etc. Lazy PSP'ers unite! lol

I posted a Back to Basics tutorial here in the comm a few days back-- it had some tips for getting a better image. ^_^ (It's so important.) For PSP8, too! Hope it helps.

PSP8 has a Clarify tool that gives great results when applied before resizing. I posted a little tutorial a few days ago that features a short overview of various PSP8 image correction tools.
