Release #69 (original) (raw)
Release #69 is now about done! For your muti-functional perusal today, we have some new integration with Facebook, Twitter, and OpenID along with the re-launch of Pingbacks!
Facebook Connect can be used like OpenID
Facebook users without a LiveJournal account can log in, comment, list friends, and join communities just like OpenID users:
Easy upgrade to full account for OpenID and Facebook Connect users
OpenID and Facebook Connect users can opt to receive email notifications even without a full account (OpenID accounts have already been able to do this for some time now). Converting to a full account is then as easy as clicking Upgrade to full account in the Account Settings of an OpenID or Facebook Connect account.
Link accounts to cross-post to Facebook and Twitter
On the Extensions tab of your Account Settings page, you can now link your Twitter and Facebook accounts to cross-post entries and/or comments you make. Note: this integration is based on a new API, so if you've used the old crosspost function to Facebook, that will no longer work and you'll need to re-connect your accounts through this feature now.
You can also select to repost on the "Post an Entry" page or when you post a comment:
Pingbacks
Pingbacks are back! The setting is here: http://www.livejournal.com/manage/settings/?cat=privacy. All users who specifically chose a setting last year will have their settings stay the same; new accounts created since then will default to "open" (on)
For those of you new to this Pingbacks thing, it's a way of being notified that someone has linked to your post, and also to give a heads-up or "shout out" to someone whose post you've linked to. Pingbacks will only work on public posts - but work the same whether the posts are in a community or journal (based on the settings of the author of the entry). The "ping" will be left as a screened comment: here's an example (I unscreened the comment).
We also have some other changes and bugfixes:
- Fixed a problem that caused some users to be unable to edit their profiles (LJSV-1171)
- Cyrillic characters in an embed code should no longer cause an error (LJSV-1162)
- Custom colors should now be displayed properly in S1 journals (LJSV-1168)
- Temporarily removed Webmoney as a payment method
- Made some improvements to error pages
- Using the repost tag should repost the entire entry
- Corrected confusing text in the rename process
- Added "Click the Finish button to confirm your order" on the last page of shop check-out process
