ABOUT VAMPIRES (original) (raw)

LAST UPDATED: October 13th, 2008

The History:
Vampires have been around pretty much since the beginning, however were extremely well kept at hiding themselves, therefore not mentioned in any early writings. Only in the early 1700's did they start making themselves known, starting in Germany and Austria and spread quickly over Europe to the 1800's. London, France, Berlin, and New York seemed to be the hot spots of vampire activity where most lived.

In 1805 the German and France vampires declared an uprising against the humans and went about killing them ruthlessly, saying they were the higher beings and deserved to rule over humans. The attempted overthrow lasted three years before the humans regained control and subdued the vampires.

From there on out everything seemed to be quite peaceful. Vampires are now looked down upon in France and Germany, though still mildly tolerated in the countries. London, New York, and Los Angeles are the new hot spots of vampire living (as well as other big cities). The population of vampire to human is about even as well, if not humans are a bit more populated.

The Vampire:
Becoming a vampire is like all the stories you hear. One bites a human, drains them of nearly all their blood, then offers their own and a chemical/biological change happens with the chromosomes and DNA and whatever changes and tada they're a vampire! (holy run on sentence, Batman) Same here. HOWEVER-- Vampires CAN be born. It is very rare for it to happen, and it usually has something to do with the lineage and genetics.

[Creator Note: I will not accept a dozen vampire applications of being born as one. If you wish to be born into it, make a damn good history that works with the conditions of being born. If I decline the idea, please do not be offended and you are still able to stay in game as a turned vampire, even if you might have to alter your history a little.]

-The Strengths:

Vampires do have powers, and the older they are they more powerful the powers can get and the more they can learn. Powers include (but may not be limited too):

i. Heightened speed
ii. Heightened sense (hearing, seeing, smelling)
iii. Jump (as in being able to jump roof to roof, or off a many storied building [CN: within reason, please. No skyscrapers.] and landing on feet without damage.)
iv. Regeneration
v. Shadow melding (able to shift and bend shadows to surround self and hide in.)
[CN: This is an "ancient" power which is also dying out in modern times, and not everyone is able to learn it right away. Characters must be 1500+ or heavily studied the way of ancient arts to know this]

-The Physical Characteristics:

Physical changes that vampires can have as time passes. Changes include (but may not be limited too):

i. Claws
ii. Cat eyes
iii. Poison/venom from fangs
iv. Wings (choice of feathered, mammal bat, or scaled dragon-like. Which can be hidden into the back as a tattoo design.)
[CN: Vampire's can't have everything on the list for it being random genetic 'mutations' (for lack of a better word). Please limit your vampire to only one or two things.]

-The Weaknesses:

Self explanatory, right? Weaknesses include (but may not be limited too):

i. Garlic, stakes, Holy Water, etc don't do shit. Vampires just don't like them.
ii. Sun can kill.

The Food:
A vampire's health and survival depends on blood. Fresh, human blood is the best thing for them, however bottled and packaged can be suitable, though not as good to sustain long life. Typical store bought packaged blood tends to be cow or pig.

Packaged and bottled are often used in mixed, alcoholic drinks for vampires. Both liquids go straight into the blood stream so vampires are able to drink. Higher ended clubs and restaurants mix human blood with their drinks rather than animal.

Human food is safe in small moderation, and usually balanced out... with blood. A vampire isn't able to go and buy a Whopper meal and be cool with it. Usually small portioned meals can be handled without problem. [CN: Suggestions being along the lines of like.. salmon balanced out with wine/blood mixed drink, or a rareish cooked steak. Small salads and things are safe as well, as long as they're balanced out.]

The Sun:
The sun has never been a vampire's friend. It's hard to see in the daylight and it will burn if the light hits the skin directly. However, vampires have found ways around all this. If they cover themselves completely they are able to stay out in the sun. Including the face. Typical hats will not work so an umbrella or something of that nature would have to be used to fully protect the face.

Vampires are still safe during dusk and dawn because there are more hours in the day than there are night, but once it rises over the horizon they need to be covered.

-On account of getting a subburn and regeneration:

If a vampire gets and accidental, small burn, it will heal over a period of time, however leaving a scar. The scar will also heal, but over a MUCH longer period of time. No matter the age or knowledge or experience, there is nothing to do that would speed up the healing process of a burn. If you've read all this, please place '..to take one last look at the moon, the stars begin to fall.' within your application.
