Been vegan again for 1 month, minus Christmas day where I had a few bites of cheesey spinach dip and mashed potatoes because I partied the night before and was not strong enough for my vulnerabililty. Paid the price, and was reminded why I dont eat the stuff. It's bad for my body and the world.
I was vegan for almost an entire year and it was the best I'd ever felt in my life. Boundless energy, happiness, inspiration. So many healthful benefits. Not too mention, with the inclusion of fasts, 30-40 lbs lost.
Went on a hiatus, and gained a lot of weight back, not all of, but half of it. Along with losing all those things I talked about (not completely).
cw:145 lbs
hw: 160 lbs
lw: 105 lbs
cgw: 125 lbs
ugw: 110 lbs
what-the-hell-are-you thinking weight: 105 lbs
I will get down to 110.
I fast, but I like to do it the *healthy* ways, in this case-- with lots of water, raw veggies (mostly salads without dressing, or a little vinegar for dressing), some fruits (mostly high water content varieties), and fresh juices (mostly veggie) and smoothies (for example, berries, spinach and flax).
I would love to have a buddy or two or three to help me stay strong, so leave a comment/message if that is something you are interested in.
I welcome support from others, and will support you in your journey to skinny and vegan. Stay lovely.

Day Four of Veganism

Today was day four of me being vegan. I think my body is beginning to finally adjust to the food I've been feeding it. I'm not starving as much as I was the second day. So I feel like I'm on track. I've just got to get meal plans straightened out so I get all sorts of yummyness variety.
I was craving cheese today. Like big time. So I when I was at the store today I picked up some vegan swiss cheese and tried a slice when I got home. It was the worst. I'm not going to lie. It was better when I paired it with a piece of sauteed potato on the stove though.
I also bought some soy vanilla yoghurt and it was yuuuuummy. I was nomming to delightful contentment.
I think I'm going to make pita lavashes in a few minutes. I probably won't end up in bed until one or so (my boyfriend just got the new Assassin's Creed), and I've got some late assignments to catch up on. D=
Anyway the lavashes:
1 pita
big handful of spinach
tomato
small handful of cut bell peppers
hummus to spread on the pita
roll it up and slice it like sushi. toothpicks might be necessary.

Am I Detoxing?

We'll actually, I'm pretty sure I am. Before I changed to a vegan diet, I was an omnivore. I basically became vegan overnight.
But anyway, this is Day 2 and my symptoms are:
-Gassy
-Bloaty
-STARVING
-Sleepy
-Sore throat
I don't know if the sore throat actually has anything to do with the diet. I'm probably just reacting to the change in weather. Or maybe it's the onset of my annual strep throat. Ugh. >_<

Hi. I'm seriously considering being a vegan because there are just so many wonderful benefits. Losing weight is a contributing factor, but I'd like to think there's more to it (sad animals, healthy body, glowy skin etc.). Anyway, I think that the only thing that I wouldn't be able to give up is butter. I just couldn't replace it with margarine - it's so unhealthy! Trans fats are not allowed in my arteries, so I guess I would make kind of a half-assed vegan in that sense. Yogurt and eggs would be hard to give up too.
Any tips for a newbie? :)

Hello, I am new to this community.
I have not been a stable vegan, but I have been a stable vegetarian for about 3+ years now.
I want to be completely vegan, but on rare occasions I have the worst downfalls ( for Ben & Jerry's ice cream ). However, I avoid dairy and eggs when buying and cooking food, and mostly eat fruit and vegetables.
Lately, my problem with food has been sweets, eating too much, and eating too late; I have a really bad sweet tooth, but my appetite is probably messed up by disordered sleeping and stress. Likewise, I haven't been getting as much exercise as I used to.
I think my weight's been stable-ish, but I've lost a lot of muscle mass in the past 2 years from decreased amounts of pilates.
My goal is too lose some weight/gain muscle by December 12th---doing that from exercising 3+ a week and eating less sugar/processed foods, and eating more raw foods.
Height: 5' 7"
CW: 114lbs
GW: 110lbs

Hey y'all. I've been a vegetarian for five years and I've been an on-and-off vegan for two. This month, I'm going raw. I'm wondering if you guys have any good tips or recipes? Unfortunately, I'm a student so I eat caffeteria food and don't have much time to cook; but I REALLY want to make this work.
Also, do you guys have any tips for being...subtle about this? I don't really want my friends to know.

Day 2 of juice fasting

I have never, ever fasted before. Ever. Mostly because I am crazy about cooking, and also because I assumed people would give me strange looks and insist on signing me up for an anorexia clinic. But still.
Returned from Europe on Monday, feeling brilliantly happy after an awesome sister vacation in Wiesbaden, Paris, and Biarritz, and also completely miserable because of lord knows what--the food in my father's house, jet lag, no sleep, the local cheese and the mussels our hotel's restaurant is famous for (did you know that a typical Pays-Basque snack is baguette with dark cherry jam, topped with a slice of sheep cheese, similar to Parmesan but softer? Culture shock likewhoa. In a good way), so I started juicing yesterday. Yesterday it was a sort of green-lemonade juice with added honeydew, and today it's cucumber and honeydew during the day, and possibly something involving beets and watermelon tonight.
Results: woke up this morning with a headache and sore throat, but nothing that didn't go away quickly, and I didn't feel horrifically bloated or oversized, the way I did the day before (all right, plane food!). I usually freak whenever I weigh above 130, and I came back from vacation 135. Whether it was water weight or whatever else, I woke up this morning at 129. Huge relief.
And it's nice to be back in a country which, although it has uncomfortably iffy ethics about food production and very sterile grocery stores, at least is sympathetic to people eschewing meat. France is one of those lovely countries in which, if you say you do not eat meat, they offer you a plate of marvellously seasoned seafood, generally with the eyes, feelers, and claws still attached if we're talking shrimp or crayfish.
I have no idea how long this juice fast thing is going to continue, but I have a tentative goal of 120 lbs. For a 5'5" girl, I feel like that's healthy.
But y'all. Juicing pulp floods your sink and makes water slop over onto your cat's very large head. I feel like I should share.

Hello, everyone; new member here! Not concerned so much with weight loss as just overall health...which, I suppose, includes weight loss but isn't totally defined by it.
Current weight: about 130 (I'm teaching at a summer program without a scale but with a horrendous cafeteria...so yeah.)
Current height: 5'5"
Goal weight: 115-120
Essential appearance goal: I want my 24" waist back; it's about 26" right now.
Generally, I try to stick to the Natalia Rose detox program tailored to vegans (favorite lifestyle book is her Detox 4 Women), based around green vegetable juice, lots of fresh raw and some cooked vegetables, raw salads, avocados, young coconuts, dark chocolate, almond milk, soups, and some red wine.
Realistically, I live with a carnivore--like a SAD carnivore, not a healthy one. I love him to pieces, but he stocks the house with chicken wings, Doritos, goldfish, and tubs of cheap ice cream and then has the irritating habit of barely eating any of it, so he's exactly my height and weight; pisses me off in a very loving sort of way. I'm also the household cook, so not only does my cat get fresh, raw cat food, but I make the boyfriend steak and tortilla pizzas and things like that. I have to; he hates all vegetables but broccoli...
So my goal for this year is to strictly follow Natalia's program, despite everything that will be in the pantry. I quit juicing because the darn juicer was just too cumbersome to clean, and I never had a really good movement routine in the mornings, like rebounding or yoga. I've also got to quit baking bread; it's my weakness, far more than sweet things.
Other issues: I'm going to Europe in four days (!) to see family and go on a sister-sister trip to France, and I do not know if my father has even heard of tofu, much less veganism. German food is kinda bratwurst-heavy...and France is filled with croissants and goat cheese and seafood that may induce me to vacation indulging because, hey, how often does a culinary freak get to travel to France?
Have any of you gone to Europe and successfully managed to stay vegan?
Also, when I get back from Europe (third week in August), is there anyone else who juices and would like to team up online? It's so much easier to commit to doing something if you feel you're not just being an absolute freak of nature. =)

I plan to do a fresh juice fast, w/ smoothies, & occasional raw fruits and veggies. I am working up to it right now by being vegan again and eating as live and pure as I can.
I would love some support in my endeavors to be vegan again and to jump start not only my weight loss but my health with a juice/smoothie fast.
