The 31st anniversary of Tiananmen Square protests of 1989 was principally events that occurred in China and elsewhere on and leading up to 4 June 2020 – to commemorate the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests and massacre, in which thousands of people are widely believed to have been killed. It was reported that, all in all, despite the ban, tens of thousands of Hong Kong people still came out in defiance of the ban, knocking down barricades erected around Victoria Park.
