It is located at 35.14° North, 5.83° East, at the southern edge of the Saharan Atlas between the provinces of Batna and Biskra. The region is largely rocky with an average altitude of more than 900 metres (2,953 feet) above sea level. Ain Zaatout has an estimated population of around 5,000 composed of Farhi people, Muslim Berbers speaking a distinctive variant of the Shawi dialect used in the Aurès. Le village est situé à 35,14° Nord et 5,83° Est entre les wilayas (départements) de Biskra et Batna au sud du massif montagneux des Aurès. Ah Frah a une population d'environ 5 000 habitants. Essentiellement peuplé de chaouis, peuple berbère, la langue courante est le Chaoui (dialecte berbère), dans une variante distinctive. Ain Zaatout a une superficie totale de 171.19 km². Il nome di questa popolazione è anche stato arabizzato in Beni Farah o Beni Ferah (in arabo: بني فرح). La località si trova nella parte sud orientale della catena dell'Aurès, una quarantina di chilometri a nord di Biskra, in una regione prevalentemente rocciosa. Il berbero parlato dagli Ait Frah è stato particolarmente studiato da André Basset, e i lavori che lo riguardano sono tra i più ampi fin qui fatti sui parlari berberi dell'Aurès (tashawit).
