Alva Noë (born 1964) is an American philosopher. He is Professor of Philosophy at the University of California, Berkeley. The focus of his work is the theory of perception and consciousness. In addition to these problems in cognitive science and the philosophy of mind, he is interested in analytic phenomenology, the theory of art, Ludwig Wittgenstein, enactivism, and the origins of analytic philosophy.

Stattdessen vertritt Noë, unter Berücksichtigung der Phänomenologie, einen sog. sensorimotor account (auch bekannt als enactive cognition, vgl. Erweiterter Geist) des Bewusstseins: Wahrnehmung und Bewusstsein sowie die hierbei involvierten Qualia sind nach Noë Produkte, die kognitiver Tätigkeit entspringen, d. h., sie passieren nicht einfach, sondern entstehen durch Interaktion eines Organismus mit seiner Umwelt. Die Thesen, die Noë und seine Mitstreiter entwickeln, sind derzeit – weil noch relativ jung – in einer Entwicklungsphase und Gegenstand aktueller Diskussion.
