In organic chemistry, an aminomethyl group is a monovalent functional group with formula −CH2−NH2 or −CH4N. It can be described as a methylene bridge −CH2− with one bond filled by an amino group −NH2. It is one of a series of of the form −(CH2−)nNH2. Aminomethyl is used in the standard (IUPAC) names of some compounds, such as 4-(aminomethyl) benzoic acid.
