BRITE-Constellation is an ongoing space mission carrying out two-band photometry in wide fields with a constellation of six (five operational) BRIght Target Explorer (BRITE) nanosatellites. The mission was built by a consortium of three countries, Canada, Austria, and Poland, each operating two BRITE satellites. The six satellites were launched into orbit between February 2013 and August 2014. Each satellite is a cube-shaped spacecraft with sides of 20 centimetres (7.9 in) hosting an optical telescope of 3 centimetres (1.2 in) aperture feeding an uncooled CCD with a field of view of approximately 20° × 24°.

Der erste der sechs Satelliten wurde am 25. Februar 2013 gestartet, der letzte am 19. August 2014. Je zwei Satelliten kommen aus Kanada, Österreich und Polen. (de) BRITE lub Bright Target Explorer, znane także jako Canadian Advanced Nanospace eXperiment 3 (CanX-3) – konstelacja sześciu nanosatelitów umieszczonych na orbicie okołoziemskiej przez konsorcjum kanadyjsko-austriacko-polskie. Projekt satelitów BRITE został zainicjowany przez prof. Sławomira Rucińskiego z Uniwersytetu Toronto. Satelity wykonane zostały przez zespół międzynarodowy złożony z Uniwersytetu Toronto we współpracy z Uniwersytetem Technicznym w Wiedniu, i Centrum Badań Kosmicznych PAN. Austriackie satelity noszą nazwy: i , kanadyjskie to oraz . Wystrzelone przez stronę polską zostały BRITE-PL "Lem" (2013) oraz BRITE-PL "Heweliusz" (2014). Satelity w kształcie sześcianu o boku 20 cm i masie około 6 kg obserwują procesy wymiany masy (procesów konwekcyjnych), zachodzących we wnętrzu masywnych gwiazd z dokładnością przeszło 10 razy większą niż teleskopy umieszczone na Ziemi. Aktualnie czynnych jest pięć satelitów (stan 2014). Szósty satelita BRITE-Montreal pozostał w ostatnim członie rakiety nośnej, z którą krąży po silnie eliptycznej orbicie. (pl) |
