His compositions and arrangements have been commissioned by large orchestras such as the CBC Radio Orchestra, John Korsrud's Hard Rubber Orchestra, and the Dal Richards Orchestra A recipient of multiple Canada Council for the Arts awards, he has studied with Jim Hall, Neil Chotem, Rick Wilkins, and Louis Stewart. Coon is considered by CBC Radio to be one of Canadas Great Treasures. He is a faculty member at Capilano University, as well as the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra School of Music. In 1996, Coon was caught lip-syncing his performance at Vancouvers Carnegie Hall. Fans were outraged, and in the following decade Coon struggled to regain his reputation in the music industry. He has remained somewhat reclusive ever since; only playing smaller, occasional gigs throughout the city. (en) |
