It was named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names after Lieutenant , U.S. Navy Reserve, officer in charge, Palmer Station Construction Unit, Operation Deep Freeze, 1969. Platt Point (68°36′S 64°14′W / 68.600°S 64.233°W) is the east entrance point to the inlet on the east coast of Antarctic Peninsula. The feature marks the extremity of an ice-covered, though clearly outlined, spur that juts north from the west part of Hollick-Kenyon Peninsula. The margins of the feature were photographed from the air by Lincoln Ellsworth, 1935, but it was more clearly defined by aerial photographs taken by the United States Antarctic Service (USAS), 1940. Named by Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN) in 1977 for , U.S. Navy, hospital corpsman, Palmer Station, winter party 1968. Sie wird südlich durch die Hollick-Kenyon-Halbinsel begrenzt. Ihre Einfahrt liegt zwischen dem Kay-Nunatak und dem Platt Point. Der US-amerikanische Polarforscher Lincoln Ellsworth fotografierte sie während eines Überflugs am 23. November 1935. Diese Luftaufnahmen dienten dem US-amerikanischen Kartografen W. L. G. Joerg der Kartierung ihrer Westküste. Neuerliche Luftaufnahmen entstanden 1940 bei der United States Antarctic Service Expedition (1939–1941) und 1947 bei der US-amerikanischen Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition (1947–1948). Der Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey nahm 1958 eine Vermessung vor. Das Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names benannte die Bucht nach Leutnant Bradley J. Bowman von den Reservestreitkräften der United States Navy, diensthabender Offizier der Einheit zur Errichtung der Palmer-Station während der Operation Deep Freeze von 1968 bis 1969.
