It was disbanded following the French canton reorganisation which came into effect in March 2015. It had 16,554 inhabitants (2012). The canton comprised the following communes: * Aulnois-sous-Laon * Besny-et-Loizy * Bucy-lès-Cerny * Cerny-lès-Bucy * Chambry * Crépy * Laon (partly) * Molinchart * Vivaise (en) Laon-1 kantonamendua Frantziako kantonamendu bat da. A seguito della riforma approvata con decreto del 21 febbraio 2014, che ha avuto attuazione dopo le elezioni dipartimentali del 2015, ha assunto il nome attuale ed è passato da 9 a 29 comuni più parte del comune di Laon.
