Challenger Center for Space Science Education is a United States 501(c)(3) non-profit organization headquartered in Washington, DC. It was founded in 1986 by the families of the astronauts who died in the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster on January 28, 1986. The organization offers dynamic, hands-on exploration and discovery opportunities to students around the world. These programs equip students with the knowledge, confidence, and skills that will help better our national social and economic well-being.

(en) 챌린저 러닝 센터(Challenger Learning Center)는 1986년 1월 28일 미국 플로리다 케네디 우주센터에서, 전 국민에게 충격과 슬픔을 안겨 주며, 워싱턴에 위치한 어느 한 고등학교의 여교사(크리스타 매콜리프)를 포함한 7명의 우주 비행사들이 비행하고 있던 우주 왕복선 챌린저호(STS-51-L 미션)는 이륙한지 73초라는 짧은 시간 만에 폭발 되었는데, 이 7명의 챌린저호 대원들의 유가족들이 모여서 우주를 향해 뻗어 나가고자 했던 사고 희생자들의 뜻을 이어 받고 챌린저호의 교육적인 임무를 이어가기 위해 설립한 Challenger Center for Space Science Education에서 탄생시킨 우주 과학 학습센터이다. 챌린저 러닝 센터는 미국 전역 30개의 박물관, 교육·과학 전문가들, 미 항공 우주국(NASA: National Aeronautics and Space Administration)의 전직 우주 조종사 출신자들이 모여 CLC의 교육 프로그램을 하나하나 만들었다. 학생들의 과학, 수학, 기술, 우주에 관한 관심과 각 영역에서 문제 해결력을 키우는 데 목표를 두었다. 현재 미국, 캐나다, 영국, 한국 등 총 48개의 챌린저 러닝 센터는 매년 40만 명의 학생과 2만 명의 선생님들이 방문하고 있다. 이는 챌린저 센터가 선진국에서 우주과학 교육의 산실로 자리 잡고 있음을 보여준다. 우주를 항해하며 일어날 수 있는 에피소드들과 태양과 행성들, 그 위성들과 소행성에 관한 내용을 담고 있으며 태양계와 우주를 학생들이 보다 이해하기 쉽도록 제작되었다. 챌린저 러닝 센터가 추구하는 이념은 미래를 바라보고 있는 학생들에게 자신의 목표를 세우고, 판단력과 팀워크, 문제 해결 그리고 의사소통 능력을 스스로 개발해 나가며 세계로 나아가는 것이다.
