Changüí ist ein musikalisches Genre, das um 1860 im Osten Kubas aufkam. Es wurde bei Festen (cumbanchas) von Bauern in den Bergen gespielt und hat seinen Ursprung in der Musik der Bantus, der afro-französischen Einwohner Haitis und spanischen Einflüssen von den Kanarischen Inseln. Als Instrumente werden eingesetzt: Tres (kleine dreisaitige Gitarre), Marimbula (Lamellophon), Maracas, Guayo (Schrapinstrument Güira) und Bongo. Ein Sänger wird in der Regel von einem Chor aus zwei oder drei Sängern begleitet.

Technically, the changüi ensemble consists of: marímbula, bongos, tres, güiro (or guayo) and one or more singers. Changüi does not use the Cuban key pattern (or guide pattern) known as clave.
