- El Comentari a l'Apocalipsi o Commentarium in Apocalypsin és la principal obra de Beat de Liébana, la qual dedicà a , un altre religiós que es va refugiar a la vila de Liébana fugint de la invasió àrab. L'obra, molt popular durant els segles VIII-XI, al tombant del canvi de mil·lenni, fou molt copiada, especialment als regnes hispànics i el sud de França, i generà una de les més famoses col·leccions de manuscrits anomenats beatus. Del Comentari se suposa que se'n feren diverses redaccions. El càlcul de les edats del món en el llibre IV fa sospitar-ho. La primera redacció deu ser de l'any 776 i la segona del 786, en plena controvèrsia adopcionista. En aquesta hi deu haver un afegit de textos aliens al comentari, la modificació de la cronologia i la dedicatòria a Eteri. En aquesta versió pretén fer front a la crisi per la qual passava l'Església en aquells moments i intenta demostrar que està en possessió de la tradició sobre l'arribada i predicació de l'Apòstol Jaume el Major a Espanya. Per això es basa en el Breviari dels Apòstols. Aquests Comentaris contenen també un dels més antics mapamundis del món cristià. (ca)
- Commentary on the Apocalypse (Commentaria in Apocalypsin) is a book written in the eighth century by the Spanish monk and theologian Beatus of Liébana (730–785) and copied and illustrated in manuscript in works called "Beati" during the 10th and 11th centuries AD. It is a commentary on the New Testament Apocalypse of John or Book of Revelation. It also refers to any manuscript copy of this work, especially any of the 27 illuminated copies that have survived. It is often referred to simply as the Beatus. The historical significance of the Commentary is made even more pronounced since it included a world map, which offers a rare insight into the geographical understanding of the post-Roman world. Well-known copies include the Morgan, the Saint-Sever, the Gerona, the Osma and the Madrid (Vitr 14-1) Beatus codices. Considered together, the Beatus codices are among the most important Spanish manuscripts and have been the subject of extensive scholarly and antiquarian enquiry. The illuminated versions now represent the best known works of Mozarabic art, and had some influence on the medieval art of the rest of Europe. (en)
- Commentarium in Apocalypsin ('Comentario al Apocalipsis') es la principal obra de Beato de Liébana. La dedicó a Eterio de Osma, otro religioso que se refugió en la Liébana cántabra, huyendo de la invasión árabe. La atribución de la obra a Beato se considera cierta, aunque no tenemos ningún testimonio directo de que su autor sea él. La obra generó una de las más importantes colecciones de manuscritos iluminados, los llamados "Beatos". El Commentarium consta de doce libros y se supone que tuvo varias redacciones. El cálculo de las edades del mundo en el libro IV induce a sospecharlo. La primera redacción se remontaría al año 776 y la segunda al 786, en plena controversia adopcionista. En ésta habría una refundición, añadido de textos ajenos al comentario, modificación de la cronología y la dedicatoria a Eterio de Osma. La autoría del Commentarium se basa precisamente en la dedicatoria y en la suposición generalizada de que en esa época y en esa parte de la cristiandad solo podía componer una tal obra el autor del Apologeticum adversus Elipandum, obra con la que tiene coincidencias textuales. Debido a su importancia y calidad visual, estos comentarios forman parte del Programa Memoria del Mundo de la UNESCO desde el año 2015, en una candidatura compartida por España y Portugal. (es)
