Communitas – łaciński rzeczownik oznaczający wspólnotę, wspólny udział, społeczeństwo, ale także więź czy łączność. Communitas jako pojęcie stosowane jest w antropologii kulturowej, jest charakterystyczne dla obrzędów przejścia. Communitas to zasadnicza i organiczna więź międzyludzka, bez której nie byłoby żadnego społeczeństwa. Nie zna rang ani rozróżnień i jako taka powinna poprzedzać wszelkie charakterystyczne dla władzy wyniesienie ponad społeczność. Communitas wytwarza własną symbolikę oraz idee filozoficzne.

Victor Turner, who defined the anthropological usage of communitas, was interested in the interplay between what he called social 'structure' and 'antistructure'; Liminality and Communitas are both components of antistructure. This sacred component is acquired during rites of passages, through the changing of positions. Part of this sacredness is achieved through the transient humility learned in these phases, this allows people to reach a higher position.
