He also finished third in the WSC in both 1991 and 1999. In 1996 and again in 2007, he lost a match to a computer. His competitive career began in 1986. Il vit à Dorval au Québec. En 1995, Boys a fini premier ex-aequo avec Joel Sherman des États-Unis. Les deux se sont qualifiés pour la finale en 5 manches maximum. En égalité après les 4 premières manches, c'est Boys qui a remporté la dernière manche décisive pour devenir champion du monde de Scrabble anglophone.
