Didier Pittet (born 20 March 1957 in Geneva, Switzerland) is an infectious diseases expert and the director of the Infection Control Programme and WHO Collaborating Centre on Patient Safety, University Hospital of Geneva, Geneva, Switzerland. Since 2005, Pittet is also the External Lead of the World Health Organization (WHO) Global Patient Safety Challenge "Clean Care is Safer Care" and African Partnerships for Patient Safety. In the 2007 New Year Honours List, Didier Pittet was awarded the Honorary Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in recognition of his services related to the prevention of healthcare-associated infections in the UK. En 1995, il a découvert que la friction hydroalcoolique est plus efficace que le lavage des mains à l'eau et au savon pour lutter contre les maladies nosocomiales. Kieruje Programem Zwalczania Zakażeń oraz Ośrodkiem Bezpieczeństwa Pacjenta w Szpitalu Uniwersyteckim w Genewie. Od 2005 roku z ramienia Światowej Organizacji Zdrowia stoi na czele Afrykańskiego Partnerstwa dla Bezpieczeństwa Pacjenta oraz Globalnego Programu Bezpieczeństwa Pacjenta „Higiena Rąk to Bezpieczna Opieka” (Clean Care is Safer Care). Programy te mają za zadanie poprawę higieny rąk w warunkach szpitalnych, a tym samym zmniejszenie liczby zakażeń szpitalnych. Polska przystąpiła do niego w maju 2013 r. W 2007 roku został odznaczony Komandorskim Orderem Imperium Brytyjskiego w uznaniu za zasługi na polu przeciwdziałania zakażeniom związanym z opieką zdrowotną w Wielkiej Brytanii. (pl)
