Die Rotstiftfunktion oder auch Redlining-Funktion (englisch to redline – Korrigieren von Zeichnungen und Dokumenten) genannt, bezeichnet in der elektronischen Bearbeitung von Zeichnungen und elektronischen Dokumenten die Möglichkeit, diese mit Änderungshinweisen und Anmerkungen für den Ersteller zu versehen, ohne die Originaldatei zu verändern. Das ermöglicht die Zusammenarbeit verschiedener an einem Produktionsprozess Beteiligter.

The software-based document comparison process compares a reference document to a target document, and produces a third document which indicates (by colored highlighting or by differing font characteristics) information (text, graphics, formulas, etc.) that has either been added to or removed from the reference document to produce the target document.
