Il se réfugie en Connaught à la cour de la reine Medb et du roi Ailill. Il est entraîné dans la « razzia des vaches de Cooley » (Táin Bó Cúailnge) où il combat l’armée d’Ulster, aux côtés des souverains du Connaught.
