- Force 136 was a far eastern branch of the British World War II intelligence organisation, the Special Operations Executive (SOE). Originally set up in 1941 as the India Mission with the cover name of GSI(k), it absorbed what was left of SOE's Oriental Mission in April 1942. The man in overall charge for the duration of its existence was Colin Mackenzie. The organisation was established to encourage and supply indigenous resistance movements in enemy-occupied territory, and occasionally mount clandestine sabotage operations. Force 136 operated in the regions of the South-East Asian Theatre of World War II which were occupied by Japan from 1941 to 1945: Burma, Malaya, China, Sumatra, Siam, and French Indochina (FIC). Although the top command of Force 136 were British officers and civilians, most of those it trained and employed as agents were indigenous to the regions in which they operated. Burmese, Indians and Chinese were trained as agents for missions in Burma, for example. British and other European officers and NCOs went behind the lines to train resistance movements. Former colonial officials and men who had worked in these countries for various companies knew the local languages, the peoples and the land and so became invaluable to SOE. Elle était constituée de militaires britanniques ou d’autres pays alliés. Les Britanniques (David Smiley, Peter Fleming, Peter Kemp, Sydney Hudson, Christopher Blathwayt, Benjamin Hervey-Bathurst, Rowland Winn, George Musgrave...), Américains ou Français (Pierre Boulle, Jean Le Morillon, Jean Sassi, Bob Maloubier, Jean Deuve...), ne pouvant pas opérer seuls en Asie, ils sont secondés par des Asiatiques (Subha Chin Svasti et Kris Tosayanonda en Thaïlande, Lim Bo Seng en Malaisie par exemple), entraînés par le SOE et formant des groupes de résistance et de guérilla. Ce n'est qu'une fois que ces groupes sont engagés dans la rébellion ouverte qu'ils peuvent recevoir une aide efficace de la part de personnels des forces armées alliées qui connaissent les langues et les gens et qui se révèlent précieux pour les liaisons avec les forces conventionnelles. - Force 136 era il nome di copertura generale per una branca dell'organizzazione britannica Special Operations Executive (SOE) (esistente nella seconda guerra mondiale). L'organizzazione fu costituita per incoraggiare e equipaggiare i movimenti di resistenza nei territori occupati dal nemico, ed occasionalmente promuovere operazioni clandestine di sabotaggio. La Force 136 operava nel Teatro del sud-est asiatico della seconda guerra mondiale, che il Giappone occupava nel periodo dal 1941 al 1945. I capi della Force 136 erano britannici (ufficiali o civili), ma la maggior parte dei soggetti addestrati ed impiegati come agenti erano originari delle zone in cui operavano. Britannici, americani o altri occidentali non potevano (per ovvi motivi di riconoscibilità) operare clandestinamente in città o altre zone popolate in Asia, ma una volta che i movimenti di resistenza sfociavano in aperta rivolta, il personale delle forze armate alleate che conosceva le lingue e la gente del posto diventava inestimabile nel ruolo di collegamento con le forze convenzionali.
