Die Freie Berliner Kunstausstellung (FBK) war 24 Jahre lang von 1971 bis 1995 die einzige juryfreie Kunstausstellung dieser Größe in Europa – „in ihrer Struktur ein Unikat“. Sie fand erstmals statt, nachdem die Große Berliner Kunstausstellung (GBK) zuvor ihre Pforten geschlossen hatte. Unterstützt durch den Berliner Senat wurde 1970 ein gleichnamiger Verein gegründet, der fortan Veranstalter der jährlichen Ausstellungen sein sollte. Den Vorsitz des Vereins übernahmen Hans-Joachim Zeidler (die ersten vier Jahre), langjährig Ernst Leonhardt sowie für die letzten vier Jahre Karin Rech.
