A village, which disappeared before medieval times, was also located in the Altrad locality. The first mentions of the commune's name date back to 1267. The village benefited from two remarkable development periods: one at the end of the 16th century and the beginning of the 17th century, the second at the end of the 17th century after the Thirty Years' War. The village endured significant destruction during the Second World War, and a modern estate was built around 1970. The commune's gentilic are Geispitzenoises and Geispitzenois (Geispitzenians in English). Plus tard, deux établissements gallo-romains y ont été repérés ; en effet, il reste sur le territoire de la commune des vestiges de la voie romaine Kembs-Besançon. Un village, disparu avant l'époque médiévale, se situait également au lieu-dit Altrad. La première mention du nom de la commune remonte à l'an 1267.Le village bénéficia de deux périodes de construction remarquables: l'une à la fin du XVIe siècle et au début du XVIIe siècle, la deuxième à la fin du XVIIe siècle après la guerre de Trente Ans. Le village subit de nombreuses destructions pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, et un lotissement y voit le jour vers 1970. Ses habitants sont appelés les Geispitzenoises et Geispitzenois.
