Grapus war das wichtigste wegweisende französische Grafikerkollektiv des 20. Jahrhunderts und existierte von 1970 bis 1992. Der Einfluss der Gruppe ist noch heute im französischen Kommunikationsdesign deutlich zu erkennen.

(de) Grapus was a collective of graphic artists, working together between 1970 and 1991, which sought to combine excellence of design with a social conscience. The work of Grapus design collective belonged to the public square, it represented a dialog between governments and citizens; culture and politics, and in the final analysis the message and the form. Its visual communication in the public square was bold and honest it was aware of its presence and its impact; and at same time it was informed by the socio-cultural parameters of time in all its dimensions past, present and expected future which provided a contest for experimentation and innovation. Throughout their history, Grapus remained Communists and idealists and continued to be operated collectively: all work left the studio signed ‘Grapus’ even when their studio numbers had grown to around 20, operating in three separate collectives. Il est créé en 1970 par Pierre Bernard, (qui s'en retire en 1979) et Gérard Paris-Clavel. Alex Jordan et rejoignent le groupe en 1976. Grapus affirme son intention de « changer la vie » et va s'attacher à développer dans une même dynamique recherche graphique et engagement politique, social et culturel. Le nom Grapus est la contraction d'une insulte soixante-huitarde « crapule stalinienne » (crap stal) et du mot graphisme. (fr) |
