Jan August Cichocki (1750–1795) was a Polish military officer and a general of the Polish Army, notable for his service in the Warsaw Uprising (1794). Thanks to a scholarship funded by , Cichocki studied artillery tactics in Dresden. Upon his return to Poland, he co-authored the military reforms of 1776–1779. At the same time until May 1792 he was the commanding officer of the (Polish: 5. pułk fizylierów koronnych), after which he was the creator and the first commander of the . One of the commanders of the garrison of Warsaw during the Warsaw Uprising (1794), he joined the Kościuszko's Uprising soon afterwards. On June 20 Tadeusz Kościuszko promoted him to the rank of General and nominated him to the post of the commander of the Narew river front, where however he showed little value as

Pobierał nauki w Korpusie Kadetów i w Dreźnie. Był adiutantem hetmana Jana Klemensa Branickiego. Jako znawcę spraw wojskowych wykorzystywano go przy reformie wojska z lat 1776-1779 i podczas Sejmu Czteroletniego. Do marca 1790 r. faktycznie, a do maja 1792 r. nominalnie dowodził regimentem 5 fizylierów koronnych, w 1792 r. i w 1794 r. był twórcą regimentu 15 pieszego koronnego. Był członkiem sprzysiężenia, przygotowującego wybuch powstania kościuszkowskiego, był informatorem króla Stanisława Augusta Poniatowskiego o zawiązanym spisku przedpowstańczym. Podczas insurekcji warszawskiej wydał z Arsenału broń ludowi. 20 czerwca 1794 roku Kościuszko oddał mu komendę nad całym frontem ciągnącym się wzdłuż Narwi. W 1774 był członkiem prefektury , w 1780 sędzią Zum zweischneidigen Schwerdte.Był kawalerem Orderu Świętego Stanisława. Został pochowany na Cmentarzu Świętokrzyskim. (pl) |
