John Irby is a journalist, professor, and former editor of the Bismarck Tribune. He returned to newspapers in June 2007 after spending eight years as a clinical associate professor at the Edward R. Murrow School of Communication at Washington State University. While there he was named national journalism teacher of the year by the newspaper division of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC). He received a journalism degree from Pepperdine University in Los Angeles. In 2011, Irby retired as editor of the Bismarck Tribune after a 40 year career in journalism.
