Joseph Arneth (* 13. Oktober 1873 in Burgkunstadt; † 16. November 1955 in Münster) war ein deutscher Mediziner. Bekannt wurde er vor allem als Internist durch seine Forschungen in der Hämatologie. Seine veröffentlichten Bücher und Forschungsergebnisse wurden teilweise kritisch aufgenommen. Dennoch gilt Arneth als einer der Pioniere der deutschen Hämatologie. He studied medicine at universities in Munich, Heidelberg and Würzburg, qualifying in 1897. He subsequently worked in Würzburg before becoming professor of medicine in Münster in 1907, a position he held until 1944. He published several books on haematology, and produced research on neutrophils and their changes in reaction to infection for which he is remembered. (en) |
