Labcabincalifornia est le deuxième album studio de The Pharcyde, sorti le 14 novembre 1995. L'album s'est classé 17e au Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums et 37e au Billboard 200. Le clip du single Drop est réalisé par Spike Jonze. Il s'agit d'un modèle du genre, de par la synchronisation entre la bande sonore et les images montées à l'envers. Le sample utilisé dans le morceau (The New Style des Beastie Boys) est d'ailleurs joué à l'envers.

The album's production was handled by The Pharcyde themselves and Jay Dee, with additional help from Diamond D and M-Walk.The first single was "Drop". The video for "Drop" was directed by Spike Jonze, and used footage of the group performing the song backwards, replayed backwards, giving it a surreal quality. The backwards theme of the video is also a reference to the song itself, which features a backwards sample. "Drop" was a hit, as was the follow-up single "Runnin'," which peaked at #55 on the Billboard Hot 100.Overall, this album is a more mellow and introspective affair than their debut and features more somber themes such as dealing with fame and success, drug abuse, and broken down relationships.Album sales compared to Bizarre Ride did not fare as well; the group was not able to reach Gold status. Although it received mixed reviews upon release due to the group's sudden shift of direction from its previous album, it received critical acclaim in retrospective reviews, with many lauding its consistency, smooth production and touchy subject matter. After Labcabincalifornia was released, Fatlip left the group to concentrate on his solo career. L'album riceve recensioni miste: se RapReviews (9/10) ed Entertainment Weekly (B+) lo giudicano un lavoro positivo, AllMusic gli assegna tre stelle su cinque e la rivista Spin vota l'album 5/10.
