Lampas is a type of luxury fabric with a background weft (a "ground weave") typically in taffeta with supplementary wefts (the "pattern wefts") laid on top and forming a design, sometimes also with a "brocading weft". Lampas is typically woven in silk, and often has gold and silver thread enrichment.

Elle est sans doute originaire de Chine, ou de Perse, et connue en Europe à partir du Xe siècle. Elle a été étudiée à partir du XVIIIe siècle seulement[réf. nécessaire]. Le lampas est un cousin germain du damas, dont la particularité est l'emploi de deux chaînes ayant deux structures distinctes, une pour le décor à dominante trame, et une pour le fond de satin, à dominante chaîne de liage. Mönsterinslaget är bundet av en bindevarp som ligger över bottenväven i mönsterytorna men ligger under bottenväven annars, vilket ger en reliefeffekt. Det mönsterbildande inslaget är ofta mycket grövre än det bottenbildande. Varparna kan vara likadana men ofta är bindevarpen (som binder ner mönstret) finare än bottenvarpen. Lampas är ett samlingsnamn för bindningar som byggs upp på detta vis. Beiderwand och diasper är exempel på bindningar som faller under lampas men med mer exakta inställningar på varp och inslag.
