This is a list of religious people in Hinduism, including gurus, sant, monks, yogis and spiritual masters. A guru is defined as a "teacher, spiritual guide, [or] godman," by author David Smith. To obtain the title of guru, one must go through a standard initiation process referred to as diksha, in which they receive a mantra, or sacred Sanskrit phrase.
