Laurence Eugene "Lon" Myers (February 16, 1858 – February 16, 1899) was an American sprinter and middle distance runner. Myers won 28 national championships. He also set world records at 11 different distances, and held every American record for races 50 yards to one mile Myers set a world quarter-mile record while running the final 120 yards without his right shoe, and finished another race that he won running sideways (in conversation with a runner who had boasted that he would defeat Myers). Sur son épreuve fétiche, le 440 yd, sur laquelle il est rarement battu, il fait passer son record personnel de 55 s en 1878 à 48 s 3/5 en 1881, devenant également le premier homme à courir en moins de 50 secondes. À son époque, il a couru plus de 440 yd en moins de cinquante secondes et plus de 880 yd en moins de deux minutes que tous les athlètes amateurs et professionnels réunis. En dépit d'une santé fragile et déclinante en fin de carrière, il parvient à dominer les meilleurs athlètes britanniques de l'époque, à l'image de Walter George, sur des distances pourtant considérées comme leur chasse gardée.
