Luc Steels (22 de gener de 1952) és un científic i artista belga, director del Laboratori d'Intel·ligència Artificial de la Vrije Universiteit Brussel. També és fundador del laboratori d'informàtica de Sony a París, actualment dirigit per François Pachet) i ha sigut un investigador visitant a la Universitat Universitat Pompeu Fabra de Barcelona. He was formerly founding Director of the Artificial Intelligence Laboratory of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel and founding director of the Sony Computer Science Laboratory in Paris. Hij is ook departementshoofd informatica binnen de faculteit wetenschappen aan de VUB. Sinds 1996 combineert Luc Steels zijn functie aan de VUB met zijn werk als directeur van het SONY Computer Science Laboratory in Parijs, dat hij in 1996 oprichtte. Hij gebruikt er kunstmatige intelligentie en robots om de oorsprong en evolutie van taal te onderzoeken. Luc Steels wordt beschouwd als een van de pioniers van Kunstmatige Intelligentie en als een vernieuwer in het vakgebied.
