Mahmud Gami (1765–1855) was a nineteenth-century Kashmiri poet from Doru Shahabad, Anantnag Kashmir. Through his poetic compositions he is well known to introduce Persian forms of Masnavi and ghazal, to the Kashmiri language.He is one of the most popular poets of Kashmiri language and has influenced generations of poets writing in Kashmiri.Mahmud Gami made significant contributions to the indigenous poetic form known as vatsun. According to Shafi Shauq, Gami is the most popular Kashmiri poet of the last two hundred years.His famous masnavis (narrative poems) include Khusrau and Shirin, Yusuf and Zulaykha, Layla and Majnun, Shaykh San'aan, Mansur Namah, Paheal Namah and Qisae Haroon Rasheed.
