In Nederland en België is lange tijd post per trein vervoerd, zowel in postafdelingen van reizigerstreinen als in aparte posttreinen. Verschillende spoorwegmaatschappijen hadden spoorwegmaterieel dat speciaal was gebouwd voor de posterijen.
