Manika was a historical figure in the Jagannath culture, popularly called as Manika Gauduni (lit. ''Milkmaid'' Manika), it is believed that she offered yoghurt to Lord Jagannath and Balabhadra when they were going to Kanchi expedition of Gajapati King.
